In response, the Critic created another video, trying to decipher the hidden message behind the Nerd's complimentary message (in the style of The Da Vinci Code film). The Nerd posted on his own forums that he was a fan of the Nostalgia Critic. He objected to comments, written by the Nerd's fans, that made "unfair comparisons between the two of them." This began a series of tongue-in-cheek video responses between The Nostalgia Critic and Angry Video Game Nerd.
The feud began when the Nostalgia Critic posted an online video where he satirically expressed his disgruntlement towards the Angry Video Game Nerd for failing to keep his fans "under control". Like the Nerd, the Nostalgia Critic tends to do his reviews in an irate, yet comical fashion. However, he has covered more recent movies since his comeback. At the beginning, his reviews were of movies or TV shows from the 1980's or 1990's. The Nostalgia Critic typically opens and closes all his videos with "Hello I'm the Nostalgia Critic, I remember it, so you don't have to.", although "Hello" is omitted during the closing.
